Anti-Doping Namibia raises awareness at Netball Cup

Anti-Doping Namibia raises awareness at Netball Cup

Anti-Doping Namibia took an important step in raising awareness about the dangers of doping at the Africa Netball Cup, held from 9 to 14 December at the MTC Dome in Swakopmund.

The organisation set up a booth to educate athletes, officials, and the public about the severe health impacts of doping with the goal of promoting clean sport.

Liaison officer for Anti-Doping Namibia, Victoria Katukula, stated the purpose of their presence at the tournament. “The aim of this booth is to raise awareness, and educate athletes on the dangers of doping. That’s why you see most of the items here are anti-doping goodies, promoting the message to say no to doping.” The booth proved to be an effective tool in reaching attendees, engaging them with interactive quizzes that highlighted the risks associated with performance-enhancing substances.

The secretary general of the Namibia National Olympic Committee, Joan Smith, who participated in the quiz, shared her thoughts on the importance of anti-doping education. “Clean sport and safe sport are fundamental to ensuring the well-being of everyone involved in athletics – athletes, coaches, sport administrators and even the parents of young athletes. Education and awareness must be a top priority when it comes to promoting safe sport.”

She emphasised that fair play is only achievable when athletes compete cleanly, which safeguards their health and extends their athletic careers.
