RUNDU – The All Peoples Party (APP) youth wing in Kavango East is gratified with the outcome of their party’s electoral college held recently near Grootfontein.
During the APP’s electoral college the minority party elected 72 people to its parliamentary list. The list represents the people who the APP wants to represent it in parliament and depending on how it fares in the elections its candidates will be selected from this list from the top to the bottom.
Speaking to New Era in an exclusive interview last week, APP youth league chairperson for Kavango East, Marcelius Haivera, said they were happy with the youth representation on the list. “This list shows not only the 50/50 representation of men and women but the youth are also elected … as youth of the party we are happy,” said Haivera.
He said there are more than 16 youths on the list from the different regions and according to him that is good as the youth are surely going to be empowered.
“This shows a good picture … in some parties the youth are not even in the top 20. Unlike others we have a youth in the top 5, in the top 10 and also in top 20 and so on, and these are more than 16 youths from the various regions,” stated Haivera.
He said this is an indication that the APP is ready and prepared to assist the youth in its ranks.
Haivera urged the youth to work hard and not to wait for things to happen. “I feel happy, I am disabled and was not picked because of my disability. I was elected number 4 on the party list because I worked hard and thus was elected because of my performance. So I’m urging the youths all over Namibia to support us as we are going to represent them if elected in parliament,” he said.
When New Era asked the APP youth league chairperson in Kavango East about their preparation in the region regarding the upcoming elections and since their stronghold is in the two Kavango regions, he said they are prepared and focused.
“Our machinery is hard at work, not only hard but very smart. We have prepared very well. I know other parties are complaining about financial constraints but we don’t need to complain about finances and are very ready to tell you we are planning to have our very first star rally very soon.” Haivera said.
Haivera said that one thing that gives them confidence is that the youth are involved in the APP.
“The youth are the ones spearheading campaigns. I know you might not hear us or see us but we have our silent strategies in both Kavango regions,” Haivera said.
