WALVIS BAY – The Affirmative Repositioning movement yesterday unveiled its candidates for the Walvis Bay local authority ahead of next month’s vote.  AR, which has registered as an association with the Electoral Commission of Namibia, has fielded five female and male candidates for the ten-member municipal council.

The female candidates include Tresia Shihulika, Rejoice Kaurimuje Fillipus, Pengeshili Ndahalele, Ivoleen van Reenen and Tangeni Mujoro.
The five male candidates are Andemale Kassie Shikonge, Erastus Petrus, Natangwe Ushona, Hafeni Kandume, and Vilho Shawapala.

Speaking during the announcement of the candidates yesterday, Shihulika, who is also the chairperson of AR Walvis Bay, said they intend to improve service delivery at the harbour town. “Evidently, there has been too much political interference at the Walvis Bay municipality since its integration in Namibia; hence, we have declared 2020 as the year of National Revolution Action, which denotes young men and women with talent and energy to stand up and take charge of the affairs of their communities by entering the local authority elections,” she said.  Shiulika appealed to all residents of the town to put aside their differences so that they can work as a team on managing and developing strategies for the town without expediency to any political affiliation.

Spokesperson of AR in Walvis Bay Absalom Fillipus said the movement will take a different approach with campaigning this year.  “We would rather focus on question and answer sessions with our candidates instead of the usual rallies to give more insight on the vision and aims of the movement,” he explained.  This, he said, will allow members and followers of AR to touch base and network with the candidates to foster a better understanding about the strategies that will be aligned for the advancement and development of the town and its residents under AR leadership. – edeklerk@nepc.com.na
