First Lady Monica Geingos says the line-up for the #BeFree Concert happening today is intentional to allow industry creatives to be part of the process of the #BeFree youth campus because they are influential in the communities they live in.
The #BeFree youth campus is situated in the heart of Katutura, a befitting and non-prejudiced move, Geingos noted, as issues of national interest need to be addressed from grassroots level. No location should thus be exempted from development and support.
“It was intentional to get these artists on board. We balanced the gender; demographically as well. This is also an opportunity for these influential artists to pledge their contribution to the centre because this is a collective project, and everyone needs to be part of it,” she said while giving the media a tour of a fully- furnished podcast.
Geingos said she is looking forward to a night of entertainment, and can’t wait to see how the event pans out. For N$100, you can attend tonight’s concert at the Katutura Independence Arena. Gates open at 15h00.
The line-up for the concert includes local youthful creatives like One Blood, KP Illest, DJ Vuyo, Sally Boss Madam and Waters, with an inclusion of veterans like Gazza, Tate Buti, King Tee Dee, Big Ben, South Africa’s Master KG and others.
Local artists have lauded the initiative of the One Economy Foundation, feeling not only grateful to be added to the line-up, but to be part of the needed change in society to impact and influence young Namibians for the greater good.
“We grew up in Damara/Nama location, and we know what is going on there. So, being part of tonight’s concert is an amazing experience. I think it is all about opportunity and support. We need more of that in our communities and FLON (First Lady of Namibia) and her team are doing an excellent job with this centre,” said one half of Tswazis, Eldazz Eldicko Geiseb.
Geiseb observed that the concert comes with a lot of responsibility to society, adding that girls are suffering and need immediate intervention. The involvement of various sponsors is indeed supportive of the mission of the project.
“This is a great platform for the youth. Hence, as Tswazis, we pledge to do what we can to boost the mandate of the campus. There are musically talented Namibians out there, and all they need is finances and opportunities. There are younger Tswazis out there who need exposure,” he stated.
The duo promised to offer pledges in the form of assisting musically-gifted young Namibians with recording and producing by using the facilities at the centre, which consist of a studio.
“We further pledge to talk to the boys. There are those with no direction. We were once younger and we can relate to these types of societal issues, but now we are grown and taking care of our families,” he added.
One Blood’s Daphne Kaune told VIBEZ! that it is always a privilege to be part of an event which involves the youth.
“Just existing is not enough on this earth; one has to have a purpose. Some of our young folks are misdirected. This campus is giving the youth a platform as people are free to be themselves, and that for my brother (Victor Kaune) and I is a great initiative,” she said excitedly.
Safety measures for the concert include the presence of car guards. Tight security is guaranteed comprising members from NamPol, security guards and bouncers. In terms of transportation, local drivers from Yango and Lefa will be available to transport concert-goers safely home.
