By Frederick Philander The Head of the Extension Programme of the College of the Arts, Sharon Cagnetta, formally resigned from her post this week with immediate effect. Cagnetta is a suspect in an investigation of fraud and theft by way of false claims by the Namibian Police’s Serious Crime Unit. Both Cagnetta and the College of the Arts’ accountant Pieter van Wyk, were suspended from their positions two weeks ago by the ministry of Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture. Cagnetta’s resignation was yesterday confirmed to Art/Life by the Director of Arts, Retha-Louis Hofmeyr. Cagnetta has been in charge of the extension programme for almost five years, during which time she is alleged to have made false claims on behalf of cleaners and lecturers under her command. Both suspects are soon to appear in court.
