Windhoek
The Ambassador of Spain to Namibia, Carmen Díez, has announced the launching of an Association of former Namibian students in Spain, including recipients of Spanish government bursaries.
The Association intends to bring together Namibians who have studied in Spain across all disciplines and levels and will be open to all Spanish-speaking Namibians. Since the early 1990s, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) in Namibia has awarded several scholarships and bursaries to Namibians, providing them with financial support for their studies undertaken in Spain. Furthermore, over the last two decades many Namibians have elected to study in Spain, obtaining valuable qualifications and exposure to the opportunities presented by educational institu
tions in Spain.
Spanish is one of the most spoken languages in the world with more than 550 million speakers globally. The Ambassador remarked that as a result of this popularity of the Spanish language, there is an ever growing interest among Namibians to speak Spanish. The Embassy calls on all Namibian students who wish to foster and maintain their links to Spain to contact the Spanish Embassy in Windhoek to join the Association. In this way, the Spanish Embassy intends to provide a social platform for Namibians who have studied in Spain to share their experiences and to continue their association with Spain, with the Spanish language and the Spanish community in the region.
