Governor of Kavango West Region Sirkka Ausiku will deliver her state of the region address at Nkurenkuru community hall on Thursday next week, when she is expected to make known where the region stands in terms of development and setbacks.
“During my address I will share more light on the state of our region as well as the challenges, activities of the central government in the region for the financial year 2015/16, and the planned activities of central government in the region for financial year 2016/17,” she told New Era.
She said she would also announce plans on how the regional leadership aims to work to shape and advance the region’s development agenda to empower its inhabitants.
Her address will be attended by all regional councillors of Kavango West Regional Council and senior staff, Nkurenkuru town councillors and senior staff as well as all regional heads, members of the two traditional authorities, farmers’ representatives, teachers and their unions, political parties and empowerment groups.
The Kavango West community is also invited to go and listen in on the progress and setbacks of the region, as the state of the region address is held to inform regional inhabitants and Namibia as a whole on the implementation of projects and programmes in the region by offices, ministries and agencies, as per budget allocation.
In terms of article 110B, sub-articles 3, 5 and 6 of the Namibian constitution, the regional governor is mandated to oversee the activities and functions of the government in the region and be the link between the central government and regional council, local authorities and traditional leaders in a region.
Governors also have to annually attend a meeting of the regional council and address it on the state of the region, as well as report on the implemented and planned activities of government.
