KEETMANSHOOP – A 27-year-old man died in a fire that also burned down 30 reed homes at the Aussenkehr farm in the ||Kharas region yesterday.

Namibian Police Force crime investigations coordinator for the region, Deputy
Commissioner Nikodemus Mbango, told Nampa the deceased was identified as Willem Shiyoleni.

The fire allegedly originated in Shiyoleni’s house, but it has not yet been established what caused the fire.

Mbango said the incident occurred around 01h30, with the fire spreading to neighbouring structures and resulting in the destruction of at least 30 reed houses. Community members managed to extinguish the flames.

Mbango also reported that a 28-year-old man, Jujean Bradley Jager, reportedly took his own life by hanging himself in Karasburg on Monday. Mbango said the incident occurred around 12h45 in the Westerkim residential area of the southern town.

According to Mbango, his body was discovered in his room by his niece.

“He left for work before 06h00, returned from work around 09h00 and left for work again around 10h00. He came back around 12h30, asked for the key to his room, and proceeded to the room, where he was later found hanging,” he added.

The next of kin of both deceased individuals are informed of their deaths, and police investigations are ongoing in both cases.
