More and more Namibians are applying for programmes offered by the University of Namibia’s School of Medicine, which receives over a thousand applications annually for only 70 available places. 

The 2023 Appropriation Bill was passed without amendments in the National Assembly last week, following a range of issues, many of them complex, some contentious, while others were emotionally attached.

The Okahandja municipality has rejected a revenue-collection proposal by the community whose water has been disconnected due to unmanageable municipal bills, which have run into millions of dollars. 

While many Namibians are pushing for increased ownership of the country’s natural resources, the Chamber of Mines yesterday said it vehemently opposed to the notion.

Particularly, Likando wants the government to provide the people with reliable and safe means of transportation after frequent casualties on the waterways in the region.

Although the government has structures in place to raise awareness, provide education and give a voice to vulnerable communities, the San-speaking community living in the Bwabwata National Park feels forgotten on many social, educational, and economic benefits.

National Council Swapo member John Likando has asked for more funding to address living conditions in military bases across the country. 

Many residents in Okahandja are without water for close to eight weeks as they owe the municipality millions of dollars in unpaid municipal rates and taxes for years.
