A strict disciplinarian and uncompromising fitness fanatic, former Thistle Football Club’s hard-as-nails fullback Edward ‘Nose’ Morgenroth is one of the most revered yet less talked-about personalities in Namibian football. 

Two of the surviving founders of local giants Orlando Pirates Football Club are crying foul over what they term “infringement” on their intellectual property rights.

Former Orlando Pirates Football Club teenage goal poacher Rudolf Dickson made waves with a flurry of goals that announced him as a highly-gifted youngster and the most likely and fitted potential successor for ageing club legend Ishmael ‘Lemmy Special’ Narib in what promised to be a smooth-sailing football safari, only to evaporate into thin air. 

A giant has fallen, and though the truth is often very hard to swallow, the incredible times and electrifying moments many Namibians shared with Khai Meester Molan Moses Gariseb will forever be entrenched in our memories.

Born Freddie Mohlder Bratha in the modest central-northern town of Otjiwarongo on 14 August 1949, the strongly-built defender formed the spine of the exciting Waters’ outfit in the early 70s, strutting his stuff alongside the trident of evergreen Shekupe, Lukas ‘Oupapa’ Etenda Hipondoka, and the tough-tackling pocket-size fullback Tommy ‘Okanambaka’ Kaimbi. 

When Namibia’s founding president Sam Nujoma, the first democratically elected leader of the Republic of Namibia, penned his autobiography; ‘Where others Wavered’, the veteran freedom fighter must have had Sandro de Gouveia, in mind. 

Martin Uri-Khob was a midfielder for leading Nomtsoub outfit Chief Santos Football Club, and was famously known by the nickname ‘Voete’ amongst his vast circle of friends and teammates. 

It has been quite a hectic week for this author personally, emotionally and psychologically. Death is not always the end, it’s only the beginning, and grief is the price we pay for love. Think of death as just another step on your journey to eternity.  

Aggrieved community members of the Okondjatu district are up in arms over the constant shoddy construction work executed at the poorly developed village, north east of Okahandja, in the Otjozondjupa region.
