Two new Landless People’s Movement councillors were sworn in last Friday to replace the trio recently recalled by the party’s leadership. 

Swapo’s assigned leader for //Kharas, Laurencia Stephanus said without the party’s singular call for unity of purpose, resistance would have been jeopardised and freedom and independence never attained.

The Swapo party says it will continue to represent the people of the //Kharas region irrespective of their political affiliation or traditional affiliation.

Daniel Apollus, a pensioner residing in Klein Vaalgras, said it is challenging for him to collect water at a point far from his home due to his deteriorating health and lack of resources.

Residents of the southern village of Vaalgras in the //Kharas region are split on the question of whether a possible oil discovery in the area would benefit the community.

Landless People’s Movement leader Bernadus Swartbooi said when the party promised voters to withdraw councillors who are not performing or living up to their mandate, it meant exactly that, in the literal sense of the word.

Despite NamWater releasing 400 cubic metres of water per second last weekend from the Naute Dam outside Keetmanshoop, catchment areas further down south has not been affected yet.
