Member of parliament Veikko Nekundi has called on the National Assembly to urgently amend the Bank of Namibia (BoN) Act to enable the central bank to protect the most vulnerable in Namibia’s society. 

Parliament represents citizens, but also keeps the Executive and State institutions  accountable. Parliament is made up of two houses, namely the National Assembly and the National Council.

Sitting in the waiting area of a local hospital, it is a busy Saturday morning marking the first day of the long weekend, one wonders how nurses and doctors manage to handle a high number of patients coming into the hospital.

The Kenya starvation cult death incident that came to light two weeks ago is just one of many misguided beliefs linked to religious practices. For thousands of years, people have turned to religious practices to help them deal with issues of life and death, loss and meaning, freedom from guilt, as well as hope in ending suffering from earthly challenges. 

There is a lot of hype around the developing oil and gas sector in Namibia. While development is taking place and there are many benefits to reap in the long- term, there are decisions we need to make concerning this industry which will have long-term effects on our nation.

As I sit down to write this article, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of frustration and sadness. The question that has been haunting me for a long time is, do we all have equal opportunity in this world? And the more I think about it, the more I am convinced that the answer is a resounding no.
