Swapo President Hage Geingob has thrown his weight behind his lieutenant Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as the heir to his throne at national level, albeit holding onto the party presidency until his term lapses in November 2027.

Urban and rural development minister Erastus Uutoni will be a part of the ongoing suit in the High Court to resolve issues surrounding the adjudication of the Ovaherero chieftaincy.

Political analysts have questioned President Hage Geingob’s wisdom and seriousness in the fight against it, following his decision to appoint a corruption-convicted former minister and his lawyer to the Swapo politburo.

Only 22% of the resolutions taken at the 2017 sixth congress of Swapo have been fully implemented, a report by the party’s think tank shows. The report, seen by New Era, was tabled for scrutiny at the just-ended seventh ordinary congress.

The recent election of Uahekua Herunga as deputy Swapo secretary general has added fuel to the already intense battle for political dominance in Kunene, a region that is currently dominated by the United Democratic Front and the Popular Democratic Movement.
