Ageing is a natural part of life but it seems the older we get, the more we try to fight it. As a young child, I couldn’t wait to grow up. The other day I saw a VERY INSENSITIVE comment on a rape story posted to the New Era Facebook page. It was an open letter written by a victim of child abuse to her perpetrator, who was also her uncle. From the beginning of time, the principles of Ubuntu have guided African societies, but in regards to the treatment of widows, it is almost non-existent. It has become quite acceptable in Africa for in-laws to evict widows from their homes, leaving them with no roof over their head – no means of income and no support. A few days ago, one of my loved ones asked another “when are you having a baby?”, and I cringed, because it can be a very insensitive question to ask someone. Customer service in this country is a joke. It’s something we’ve most likely all experienced, and the saddest part is that it’s been like this ever since I started to understand the concept of customer service. I don’t know about you, but I am not okay with it!
