German settlers occupied Namibia (the then German South West Africa) from 1884 until around 1915. Upon arriving in Namibia, they started moving in different directions where they gave themselves large track of fertile land.

In a recent article published in The Namibian, horrendous figures exposed the state of our economy and blemished the hope of a utopia for Namibians who not only looked forward to a lighter year but live the daily reality of these incredulous figures. 

The prominence of the informal sector cannot be underemphasized as almost all persons who cannot find placements within the formal sector of the economy find solace in the informal sector. 

In their quest for wealth and financial freedom, Namibians in recent times have fallen prey to elaborate unregulated get-rich-quick schemes that came in the form of forex trading, investor recruitments and others, which would easily be described as the modern form of what Charles Ponzi would have come up with.

Namibians last week reacted with utter shock following a ruling by the Kasane Magistrate’s Court in Botswana, which absolved that country’s defence force of wrongdoing.
