AVC impresses with African Dream Project Centres

Ongwediva

A representative of the African Volleyball Confederation (AVC), Khalida Cassam, who is currently in Namibia to evaluate the four volleyball development centres established last year, known as the African Dream Projects, is impressed with the country’s efforts.

“I like what I saw here in Ongwediva and all the other centres. All activities are well-coordinated and the coaches know what they are doing,” said Cassam. He said the kids are highly motivated and are guided through extensive training, while still at a young age and can thus grow with the game.

“I congratulate the Namibian Volleyball Federation (NVF) on a job well-done, for their good sport administration and good vision.” He also applauded the parent’s involvement at all four centres, saying this gives extra motivation to the kids to do even more.

“We want our African teams to become competitive on a global stage and this is a good starting point for Namibia,” he said.

Cassam, who is also president of the Mozambique Volleyball Federation (MVF), further added that his country has a lot to learn from Namibia in terms of volleyball development. The four centres are in the Oshana, Khomas, Kavango East and Zambezi regions.

The African Dream Project recently won the Best Development Programme of the Year award during this year’s Namibian national sports awards.
