KAPAKO – Kavango West region governor Sirkka Ausiku on Saturday called on the Mbunza community to promote peace, and not instigate disputes among members. 

She made the remarks during the 23rd anniversary celebration of Hompa Alfons Kaundu’s chieftainship at the palace at Kapako, where the history of the vaMbunza people was presented, as well as the outcome of a concluded court judgment for the removal of Hompa Kaundu as chief of the Mbunza Traditional Authority in May 2024.

“After thoroughly following the summary of the recently-concluded court judgment, it doesn’t look like the chieftainship disputes are prominent among members of the royal family. Perhaps, it is us, the Mbunza community, those who are not part of the royal family whoinstigate these disputes,” she said.

The governor advised the Mbunza community as well as the Hompa’s subjects to bring all members of the royal family together, including those who filed for the removal of Kaundu, to collectively and peacefully move forward.

Ausiku said she is proud the Mbunza community presented their history, and encouraged them to further spread the message to every community as this could educate the masses to not instigate disputes among members of royal families, amongst others.

She further suggested that those who are knowledgeable on the history of the ovaMbunza people and how chiefs are chosen, publish a book for especially the future generations.

This book, could then be used as a reference when chieftainship disputes arise.

Hompa Kaundu narrated the gathering of events that led to him becoming the chief of the Mbunza Traditional Authority, noting that leadership positions are God-given.

He said the disputes are unnecessary as they hamper development, and are a waste of financial resources.

He invited the Mbunza community, including those who filed for his removal, to visit the palace to put the dispute behind them and move forward.
