axed Touch & Go join Benfica, Rebels…League proceedings conclude

Home Sports axed Touch & Go join Benfica, Rebels…League proceedings conclude

Windhoek

Despite a convincing 3-1 victory over already relegated Benfica on Saturday, the three points still proved ineffective to save Touch & Go from MTC Premiership League relegation.
Results from elsewhere cast a dark cloud on Touch & Go’s premiership future, as the Otavi outfit went into the weekend knowing fully well they needed more than just a win to stand any chance of surviving the chop.

If Touch & Go were to survive, they had to win their match against Benfica, which they did, and hoped Eleven Arrows would lose against coastal rivals Blue Waters or Julinho Sporting would stumble against United Stars. But unfortunately events did not go their way as Arrows defeated Waters by 2-0 while Julinho secured their stay with a 1-0 victory over United, which mathematically and technically made it impossible for Touch & Go to evade the dreaded relegation axe.

With that scenario, Touch & Go now joins already relegated sides Benfica and Rebels. Touch & Go returns to the North-West Stream First Division (NWSFD), with Benfica going back to the North-East Stream First Division (NESFD) and Rebels to the Southern Stream First Division (SSFD), respectively.

Taking up the vacated positions next season are newcomers Flamingoes from the SSFD, Young Chiefs from NWSFD and returnees Rundu Chiefs from the NESFD.
Curtains to the 2014/15 MTC premiership season came down on Saturday with the last fixtures being played at various towns across the country.
