BA, NPL at loggerheads…..another misinterpretation of rules rocks football

Home Sports BA, NPL at loggerheads…..another misinterpretation of rules rocks football

WINDHOEK – The country’s flagship football league has been thrown into turmoil after the habitually blundering organisation fluffed its own rules for the umpteenth time.

The poorly thought out resolution ordering the much publicised ill-fated MTC Premiership clash between eternal Katutura rivals African Stars and FNB Orlando Pirates replayed over the remaining minutes has left a long trail of frailties within the annals of domestic top-flight football.

The men in navy suits at Football House have been caught with their pants down finding themselves in the dock again and stand accused of violating their own rules and regulations of governing the beautiful game of football including their togetherness.

Football’s heavyweights and reigning Namibian champions Black Africa are furious, questioning the overall modus operandi of the NPL under the stewardship of Johnny “JJD” Doeseb.

The club is crying foul, fingering league authorities of being ignorant and having developed a nasty habit of violating or rather misinterpreting its own rules at the slightest provocation.

At the centre of the dispute is the ‘double’ registration of Pirates protégé Denver Meyer, who uncharacteristically switched allegiance from the Ghosts’ nest to fellow Premiership campaigners Tigers within the same transfer window period at the beginning of the current term.
The nimble-footed midfielder featured against BA in the opening round while still a Pirates player, only to resurface in the blue and white stripe of Tigers a couple of weeks later in the same round – a practice very much against the spirit of “fair play”.

BA ostensibly alerted league authorities about this unusual occurrence, but for some strange reasons only known to themselves, the league authorities did not bother to respond.

Attempts to get clarity from the NPL Chief Administrator Tovey Hoebeb were unsuccessful as his mobile went unanswered, neither did he return calls as requested.

Sources close to the NPL revealed to New Era Sport that the league was caught napping and is seeking legal advice in a desperate bid to wangle themselves out of murky waters.
