RUNDU – An inquest was registered with the Namibian Police yesterday after two adults were found to have been killed by lightning at Mpezo village in Kavango West.

At the time, the two who were in a relationship were sharing their bed with their eight-month-old daughter, who escaped
unharmed.

“It is alleged that Muntengo Getrud Katjire (24), a Namibian female, and her boyfriend Frans Kudumo Mabanze (40), also Namibian, died after they were struck by lightning yesterday at about 02h00 at the Mpezo village, Kavango West region,” the police said in a report.

“The other members of the household were woken up by the non-stop crying of the child, and went to the room of the deceased to inspect. They found their lifeless bodies in their room with their eight-month-old girl, who was not harmed. Their next of kin were informed,” the police stated.

In a similar tragic event in the Ohangwena region, a mother and son were allegedly struck by lightning on Saturday at the Okanghudi village.

The police said the two – Miriam Johannes (77) and her son Simon Petrus (61) – were discovered dead by a neighbour who came into their house.
