Namibia’s Under-17 football 11 opened their assault in the five-day four-nation tournament underway at Walvis Bay in fine fashion after the Baby Warriors saw off their second strings 4-1 in an electrifying match at the Kuisebmond Stadium yesterday.

In another match, defending champions, South Africa, were held to a 1-1 draw by the visiting Westphalia Invitation.

Action returns to the same venue with Namibia having a date with South Africa later today while Namibia B confronts Westphalia to complete the day’s proceedings.

The tournament is featuring hosts Namibia, South Africa and the Westphalia Regional Invitation of Germany while the country’s football authorities drafted in the National Under-17 B side to complete the four-team line-up following the last minute withdrawal by Zimbabwe.

The five-day tournament will be played on a round robin basis and the two teams with the most points contest the final for the winners’ stake while the remaining two teams will battle it out for third place.
