ONGWEDIVA – Police in Ongwediva are investigating a theft case after a nanny allegedly stole goods worth N$5000 from a New Era journalist.

Loide Jason, one of the New Era journalists stationed at Ongwediva had her room ransacked and goods worth N$5000 allegedly stolen by the fugitive who bolted with her loot into Angola.

To make matters worse, the fugitive nanny also locked Jason’s eight-month baby in the house.

A case of theft CR 139/10/2014 was opened following the journalist’s unpleasant experience at the hands of the nimble-fingered suspect.

Jason was so traumatised that even though the incident happened over a week ago, she only recounted her ordeal to her colleagues this week.

The nanny whose name cannot be revealed pending her appearance in court is said to have stolen Brazilian hair, seven dresses, hand bags and cosmetics including a roll-on from Jason.

According to Jason she left her apartment for work as usual one recent morning and was greeted by the squealing of her son who was screaming in vain for help when she knocked off.

“Upon my arrival at the house, I could hear my son screaming and I found the house key placed by the door outside,” related Jason.

Jason further related that she found a note from the nanny apologising for leaving without notice and indicating that she had left for Angola.

“I am so sorry for wasting your time to get a nice person 2 stay with a kinds in the house I thought I could stay with him but mboli I couldnet,” said the fugitive nanny in broken English, in a letter she left for Jason.

In the letter the nanny indicated she is heading for Luanda in Angola where her father and cousin are reportedly residing. She further claimed both her parents died in exile and that she is too young to stay alone in Namibia. The fugitive also accused an unidentified aunt for mistreating her.

According to Jason, she wants justice to prevail in this matter further indicating she wants this to be a lesson to parents not to put too much trust in the people they hire as babysitters.

She indicated such issues should be exposed to ensure both mothers and their babies are not taken advantage of by unscrupulous nannies.

Early this year a mother and her two children in Eenhana were also reportedly locked up in the house by a nanny who fled off with valuables.
