No bail for housebreaking

Home Crime and Courts No bail for housebreaking

WINDHOEK – Donavan van Wyk who was arrested for housebreaking barely a week after being released on bail for housebreaking was denied bail in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Van Wyk was released on bail on a charge of housebreaking with intent to steal and theft in September last year and was re-arrested on September 24 on another housebreaking charge. He has been in custody since then as the State objected to bail for his propensity to commit further similar offences.

On Monday Prosecutor Elina Hashipara told Magistrate Tuvoye Nuule that the investigations into the latest charge are not completed as yet, since additional statements need to be obtained from the complainant who is on leave and in South Africa. She asked for a final remand for further investigation to February 03. Van Wyk wanted the magistrate to grant him bail, but was instead informed that due to his other pending matter he has to bring a formal bail application during his next court appearance.
