The Managing Director of Bank Windhoek Baronice Hans declared the Bank Windhoek Red Run a resounding success.
Hans emphasised that the primary goal of the event was to encourage Namibians to embrace fitness and healthy habits, with nearly 1 700 participants in the race.
“We associate with Red, so we incorporated it into mobilising all Windhoekers for a
good cause, and to bring people together around our new campaign, ‘Select Red’.
What we are creating is a ‘Red Army’ of people who will take the country by storm to do good and bring positive change,” Hans shared with New Era Sport on the sidelines of the marathon on Saturday.
She expressed her satisfaction with the impressive turnout and noted that, on the previous day, many running enthusiasts had requested to join the race.
“Unfortunately, it was a bit late for them. It was a well-organised event. I did the 10km race, enjoyed it, and I am inspired to continue running,” she stated.
Looking ahead, the MD mentioned that due to the high demand, she hopes to see a larger crowd next time, ideally close to
3 000 participants. “This is to promote healthy habits among Namibians, especially the youth, to instil discipline, and
ultimately create a fit nation.”
Hans also highlighted the importance of health, stating, “Health is very important
in our nation, and this is one way of contributing to that.
We have other initiatives, such as the Capricorn Foundation, which we use to uplift the Namibian society. We are equally active in sponsoring various sports codes, and we will continue to support Namibians as much as we can.”
The newly-established New Era Publication Corporation Running Club also made a strong debut at the race, with members Limba Mupetami, Paheja Siririka, Helaria Werner and Ripureejo Ngombe participating in the 5km event. The members are encouraging more Namibians to take up running to stay fit and healthy.
