WINDHOEK – Sixty-four staff members and clients of Bank Windhoek recently took part in the fourth Blood Donation Clinic for 2013 at the bank’s main on Independence Avenue and the Vehicle and Asset Finance branch in Ausspannplatz. Since one unit of blood can save three lives, 192 lives could potentially be saved through the blood donation effort.
The Blood Donation Clinic is an initiative by Bank Windhoek to encourage staff members and clients to support the Namibia Blood Transfusion Services (NAMBTS). The Namibia Blood Transfusion Services collects more than 25 000 units of blood every year, to save and enhance the lives of over 45 000 patients. “The blood clinic was a success as the target set by the NAMBTS was 50 units of blood, but we received 64 and ten were first-time donors.
It is important to donate blood, as we all might need blood one day,” said Marjolize Scholtz, Corporate Wellness Consultant at Bank Windhoek. The first three clinics were held in March, May and July this year. One more clinic is scheduled to take place later in the year. Members of the public can also donate blood at one of the two NAMBTS centres in Windhoek and another in Swakopmund. NAMBTS also runs mobile clinics throughout the country.
