WINDHOEK – The 21-year-old Jeffrey Barman, who four months ago was released on bail for allegedly stabbing to death his girlfriend last year, is back in court for stabbing his cousin Albertas Duncan.
Barman is charged with attempted murder and remains in police custody, while his cousin Duncan is in the Intensive Care Unit of the Katutura State Hospital, where he is fighting for his life. It is alleged that Barman stabbed Duncan several times last week Friday in Katutura, after an altercation in which Duncan punched Barman in the mouth. Barman paid bail of N$3 000 in May this year for stabbing to death his late girlfriend, 20-year-old Melanie Boys, during a birthday party of their 4-year-old daughter in November last year in the Golgotha residential area of Katutura.
The State represented by Menencia Hinda objected to Barman being granted bail, because it would not be in the interest of the public, and because the victim is in the ICU, and if he dies the charge will be changed to murder. Hinda also objected to bail because of the fear that Barman may re-offend.
