Children of the Basketball Artists School (BAS) celebrated a historic triple win in the finals of the 2015 Khomas Primary School Basketball League (KPSBL) at Dawid Bezuidenhout High School, in Windhoek last weekend.
Champions Mandume Primary School and runners-up A.I. Steenkamp Primary School consist mainly of players of BAS, while 3rd placed People’s Primary School have BAS players in their armoury.
In addition, BAS players Jinola Garises and Pedro Pasile were rewarded with the most valuable player awards, while Xavier Ramakhutla walked away with the best defensive player award, with Immanuel Hanstein taking the free throw contest.
Mandume is coached by schoolteacher Star Shikemeni and Elon Kahuikee at the helm of A.I. Steenkamp. The latter also won the coach of the year accolade.
BAS applauded all its juniors, who received medals from 1st to 3rd places, attributing their success to the hard work by coaches and volunteers of BAS.
“The kids played so well and even won individual awards, portraying all the BAS values – thus making their schools proud,” said Ramah Mumba, coordinator of the BAS programme.
BAS is situated in Katutura and is supported by the German non-profit organization Isibindi, the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the German Basketball Federation (DBB) and the Namibian Basketball Federation (NBF).
