Battle of the titans in rugby league final…Unam takes on Wanderers

The stage has been set and the curtain will be coming down on the 2022 season as defending champions Unam take on Wanderers in tomorrow’s Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) Premier League final at the Hage Geingob stadium.

Unam reached the final thanks to a 23-18 win over coastal outfit Kudus in last month’s semi-finals, while Wanderers on the other hand booked their spot in tomorrow’s final via a 31-29 win over Rehoboth Rugby Club.

Both teams have had a good run this season, with Unam winning 11 and losing three of its league matches. Wanderers recorded eight wins and four losses from their league encounters so far.

Speaking on the team’s readiness for tomorrow’s final, Unam mentor David Philander said their ultimate goal is to go out there and defend their title, and to avoid making unwarranted errors against an equally dangerous Wanderers side.

“It’s going to be a tough match against Wanderers on Saturday, as both teams are looking forward to winning the title. But we are ready, and I believe that we have done our part to prepare. It is time to go out and defend the title,” he enthused.

Meanwhile, Wanderers head coach Rohan Kitshoff said they had a good week in training, and his boys look confident of taking the title home.

“We are in great spirits, and we also trained well over the past few days. The boys are ready for the final, and I can tell you that the team is free of injuries. Most of our top senior players will be available for Saturday’s clash,” he shared.

In other matches also on Saturday at the same stadium, the final of the reserve league will see Wanderers facing Rehoboth, while the women’s league final sees another Wanderers’ team taking on Rehoboth Women. The first division final will be between Sparta Rugby Club and Ocean Swallows..
