‘Beast Master’ on redemption path

… to face Mchunu next month
Windhoek

Although promoter Nestor Tobias hasn’t publicly confirmed it, reports from neighbouring South Africa have it that Namibia’s former WBO Africa cruiserweight champion, Vikapita ‘Beast Master’ Meroro, will trade blows with South African boxer Thabiso ‘The Rock’ Mchunu.
With the fight set for November 14 at the spacious Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg, Meroro will be accorded another crucial opportunity to redeem himself when he challenges Mchunu for the coveted World Boxing Association (WBA) intercontinental cruiserweight title.
Coming from a disheartening defeat at the hands of Russian no-nonsense boxer Dmitry Kudryashov earlier this year, Meroro will be expected to grab the opportunity with both hands and the only honourable thing for the Namibian to do come November 14, is to bring the title home.
The bulky Mchunu, who hails from Cato Ridge near Pietermaritzburg, recently told the South African media that he wants to use the fight against Meroro as a test for bigger and better things to come, referencing his desire to fight for the WBA world title currently held by Russia’s Dennis Lebedev.
“My main aim at the moment is to edge closer to the world title. A good performance and a couple of more fights against credible opponents will certainly boost my chances of also fighting for other world titles, not just the WBA,” said Mchunu who is ranked number 14 by the WBA.
