After an eight-year hiatus, Betty’s Modelling Academy is set to host the Miss Usakos 2023 competition today at the Usakos Town Hall Youth Centre.
This pageant focuses on empowering and inspiring the youth of the community through talent enhancement, says event organiser Beata Shiluwa.
Taking place under the theme ‘Empowering and allowing our girl-child to have a voice’, the event aims to foster mentally-strong and outspoken young ladies who can effectively address social issues that impact their communities while underscoring the importance of acknowledging the boy-child alongside the empowerment of young women.
Shiluwa told VIBEZ! the pageant further strives to build a foundation that equips young women to become responsible community leaders.
“The Miss Usakos pageant lost its value due to low funding and an unprepared organisational team. But with our newly appointed directors, we are back to reinstate the main purpose of youth upliftment,” Shiluwa explained.
In a celebration of African beauty, the organisation decided to remove restrictions on weight and height requirements for models. Instead, they aim to crown young ladies who can serve as suitable youth advocates. Shiluwa said the pageant provides a valuable platform for local businesses to market and promote their brands throughout the event.
Additionally, a portion of the event’s profits will be used to fund the crowned Queen’s Community campaign.
Christine Nendongo, one of the finalists, said true beauty is a shining beacon that transcends physical appearance and radiates from within. “It is not just about having a pretty face but a combination of qualities that make a person truly beautiful inside and out, and how you treat those around you,” she noted. As the coronation ceremony approaches, audiences can anticipate a night of glitz and glamour, featuring performances by some of Namibia’s vibrant artists, including Sunny Boy, Kalux, Young Kavin, Lu6 and more.
The charismatic duo of Faith Harmony and Abner Kevin will serve as energetic presenters, adding excitement to the evening.
