WINDHOEK

MTC NFA Cup defending champions African Stars will first have to negotiate their way past fellow Premiership campaigners Oshakati City in their bid to retain the country’s most sought-after silverware.

The Reds, fresh from last weekend’s convincing victory over Golden Bees during the competition’s opening round at Otjiwarongo, are amongst four Premiership clubs to face each other following the draw for the last 16 that was conducted at Soccer House in Windhoek yesterday.

The most intriguing tie should be the encounter between previous winners Orlando Pirates and Civics who have been pitted against each other while other former champions Ramblers will have to battle it out with Dawid Snewe’s fast improving Mighty Gunners.

Black Africa were the inaugural winners and have since won the coveted cup on several occasions and will be looking at capitalizing on their cup pedigree in domestic football when Smithley Engelbrecht’s charges face KM Eleven Arrows in what could prove a titanic clash.

In other action, Fedics United come up against lower division Eleven Brothers and Tigers should have little trouble in seeing off Black Hawks while Hotspurs’ fairytale run in the competition could come to a premature end when the Southern Stream Division One residents square up against a heavily wounded Blue Waters outfit. Cymot Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) complete the lineup with what looks on paper to be an easy ride against lowly Tough Guys.

The 2nd round will be played at the Kuisebmond Stadium in Walvis Bay on March 29 – 30.
