WINDHOEK – Welfare organizations countrywide which have applied for funding from Bank Windhoek, stand to receive a handsome share of the N$131 250 raised through the Bank Windhoek Golf Day in Aid of Welfare, in Windhoek, last weekend.

A total of 32 teams teed off in the 15th edition of the annual Bank Windhoek Golf Day with the Big Talkers quartet consisting of Andrew Milne, Aggie Dodds, George Martin and Riaan van Rooyen walking away with top honours.  Welwitschia Insurance Brokers, made up of Jacques Theron, Hennie Grobler, Johan Deysel and Basie Buitendag finished in 2nd place followed by Fox Designs from Walvis Bay that had Quinton van Wyk, Peet Botha, Pieter Fox and Gert Olivier in its armoury.

Funds were raised through entry fees from the participating teams and the auctioning of several items signed by sports legends plus other fundraising activities on the day.

“The Bank Windhoek Golf Day in Aid of Welfare is just one of many initiatives that Bank Windhoek created to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate and alleviate socio-economic issues such as poverty and unemployment,” said Christo de Vries, Managing Director of Bank Windhoek. So far 17 organizations have applied for funding from the proceeds. Bank Windhoek will continue to support organisations that make a difference in the lives of those who are unable to help themselves and contribute meaningfully to the development of the communities in which the bank does business. The Golf Day has to date raised more than N$1 million for welfare since its inception in 2000. “Bank Windhoek would like to once again express its appreciation to Pennypinchers and Kalahari Sands Hotel and Casino for co-sponsoring the golf day in aid of welfare. With all the sponsors and participation of the 32 teams, Bank Windhoek has once again proven the value that lies in its slogan: ‘Together we do Better’,” Christo continued.

Other sponsors for the day were Gondwana Collection Namibia; Capricorn Asset Management; Dr Weder, Kauta and Hoveka; Welwitschia Insurance Brokers; Cape Orchard Company; Jaylo Productions; Distell Namibia; Giu & Gam Investments and Embassy Liquor Store.
