Biosafety Council invites inputs on Regulations

Home Farmers Forum Biosafety Council invites inputs on Regulations

WINDHOEK– The Biosafety Council recently held it first meeting during which it discussed  the Terms of Reference for the Board and the Regulations.

Currently the Regulations make provision for the following aspects of biosafety:

  • the first set of Regulations are about GMOs in food, fodder and processing;
  • the second set of Regulations are about GMOs which are released in the environment; and
  • the third set of Regulations are about GMOs in laboratories.

Any person interested to view the Regulations for comments, can contact Harald Marggraff at the Namibia Agricultural Union (NAU)’s  office (meat@agrinamibia.com.na).  Public consultations are still to take place. Hopefully the Biosafety Act will be implemented during 2017 if late.
