Vivo Energy Namibia announced on Thursday a N$150 000 sponsorship deal with coastal-based football club Blue Waters. The N$150 000 comes in the form of a fuel voucher, which will be used for the football team’s travels during the 2023/24 Debmarine Namibia Premier League season.
Speaking during the sponsorship announcement, Blue Waters Sports Club chairperson Robert Shimuoshili said this
is a historic moment for the club and for Vivo Energy Namibia.
“When one looks at the history of both
our entities, there are similarities as both come from humble beginnings. I urge all corporate entities to follow the good
example set by Vivo Energy Namibia to support sports for the benefit of our youth and our country in general,” Shimuoshili said.
He further urged the government to consider modernising football stadiums to meet the standards of the Confederation of African Football (Caf) and the International Federation of Association Football (Fifa), for the benefit of Namibian children and the country. Shimuoshili also expressed his gratitude to Vivo Energy Namibia for allocating resources towards the growth of football in Namibia.
Also at the event, Vivo Energy finance manager Fernando Somaeb said that the Vivo Energy sponsorship is the first foot in the door.
“Today we listened to the call of Blue Waters Sports Club. Sport is important in keeping young people off the streets and fostering inclusivity,” he said, adding
that the N$150 000 sponsorship will only be for the Premier League 2023/24 season.
