Namibia’s elite racehorses Boma from Harambee Racing (HR) and Burger Racing’s (BR) Pee Jay scooped the main plates at the Standard Bank Alex Angermund Race Day at the Rehoboth turf over the weekend.
The distance of 1400 metres (m) was the main plate for both Nambred and Thoroughbred horses.
In the Thoroughbred category, Pee Jay won, followed by Power Surge of Khomas Turf Club (KTC) in second place.
Otjinene Supporters Club’s (OSC) Earl of Cardigan and Chief Helmet claimed the third and fourth places, respectively.
Boma was challenged by Leopard Lady of BR in second place, whereas Okahandja Racing’s promising horse Katiti Komambo came third.
Pee Jay took home a trophy and a cash amount of N$12 500, while Boma received N$7 500.
In another exciting races Power Surge of KTC won the first spot, leaving behind Woodland Ridge of Junius Racing in second place.
Unbroken Promises of Eamon Freygang settled for third position in Import A division 1 000-metre (m) plate.
In the 1 400m of Nambred maiden category, Lady Chica emerged victorious, followed by Surprise in second, while Desert Rose came third.
Golden Fire triumphed in the 1400m of Nambred graduation horses, while Angermund Racing Slim Shady came second, and Prince came third.
The Nambred category in the D-division was won by Soldier Boy of Michael van Wyk, leaving the second and third positions for Justify and Miss Lollipop, respectively.
Popular Junius Racing horse Woodland Ridge scooped the 1 800m of Import D-Division category.
The top horse was challenged by Mambo’s Express of Extreme Racing in second, whereas Time Master claimed third spot.
Competition organiser Nicky Angermund said the event went according to plan and the turnout was exceptional.
“We are happy with the participants and the display on the turf. The horse fanatics had fun while remembering the work of Alex, the historic man who revived horseracing in our town and Namibia at large,” he remarked.
He added that all horse racing protocols were observed, and the jockeys were awarded accordingly.
“We are happy. Thanks goes to our sponsor, Standard Bank, for their investment in this event,” he said.
