Racehorses Boma from Harambee Sports Club (HSC) and Unbroken Promises of Eamon Freygang won the main races at the Back2Basics race held at the Gobabis turf in the Omaheke Region on Saturday.
The distance of 2 000 metres was the main plate of the competition for both Nambred and Thoroughbred categories.
HSC’s Boma clinched victory in the A division 2 000m race, which was the main race for Nambred horses.
The Aminuis-based horse was followed home by Bin Ladin from Otjinene Supporters Club (OSC) in second place while Light Foot of Burger Racing (BR) claimed the third spot.
Unbroken Promises won the Thoroughbred title race, beating a promising horse called Whisper owned by Poll Meintjies into second place.
Another BR horse called Action Time came third in the tightly contested race.
The two major race winners, Boma and Unbroken Promises, received N$7 000 and N$8 000 respectively.
Another competition highlight was among the juvenile horses where six horses made their debut in the 800m race.
The Tallismanus Turf Club (TTC) young horse White Nossob came first, followed by Hauro Racing’s Doctor in second place and Mighty Super Jack from Okamatapati Racing settled for third place.
In the Nambred 1 600m sprint, Life is Good from TTC emerged the winner while HSC’s Boma Junior came second, leaving Professor Supporters Club’s horse called 84 in the third spot.
Among other races, Angermund Racing’s Slim Shady won the 1 000m in the Nambred maiden category while Leopard Lady of BR clinched the 1 000m Nambred D division accolade.
The Boerperd 1 000m sprint was won by Zirad of BR while the Import D division (1 000m) was won by Freygang’s Torix Night.
The 1 600m distance in the D division went to Pee Jay of BR after beating WT Racing’s Crystal Maiden and Mr Aminuis from HSC into second and third spots respectively.
