WINDHOEK – The MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing & Fitness Academy will give boxing fans a befitting Christmas gift by presenting local boxing fans with four exciting boxing events in a space of two weeks, starting earlynext month. “After a hectic year of boxing, we have resolved to show our appreciation towards all boxing fans for the support they have given us,” said promoter Nestor Tobias.
“All our boxing events have been packed to full capacity and this is because of the support we have enjoyed from the Namibian public, who have demonstrated their love for the number one sport in the country.” Namibia’s leading boxing promoter added that the academy had had an exciting year, underpinned by many accolades, that include a world title; the staging of several high profile international bouts with wins, as well as the successful defines of several African and international titles, while the world ranking by boxers from his stable showed remarkable improvement. To put the cherry on top of the cake, the academy was also bestowed the WBO African titles for best academy, best promoter and best African boxer. And as if that was not enough, Tobias and his charges are heading to Japan to challenge for the WBO Bantamweight world title. On the 3rd of next month, Imms ‘Prince’ Naidjala will be in action against WBO Bantamweight world champion, Tomoki Kameda, in Japan. Also, on the 6th of next month, action will shift from Japan to the Windhoek Country Club right here at home, when local boxing followers will be treated to a mouth-watering boxing fiesta (four title bouts) on the same night. Abmerk Shindjuu squares off against Pathias Chisenga from Zambia for the vacant WBO Africa Flyweight title.
Second on the same bill will be Martin ‘Black Poison’ Haikali up against compatriot Peter ‘The Butcher’ Malakia for the WBO Africa Lightweight title. Third on this blockbuster bill will be crowd favourite, the hard punching Sackey ‘Izinyoka’ Shikukutu, who defends his WBO Africa Welterweight title against Sherif Kasongo from the DRC. The main bout will present the man to beat, the flamboyant Wilberforce ‘Black Mamba’ Shihepo who takes on Daniel Wanyonyi from Kenya for the vacant WBO Africa Super Middleweight title. The final boxing event for the year takes place on the 14th of next month at Gobabis and will see Vikapita ‘Beastmaster’ Meroro in action against Said Mbelwa from Tanzania, to be followed by the main supporting bout between Jatoorora Tjingaveta and Tommy Hango, while Julius ‘Blue Machine’ Indongo defends is WBO Africa interim title against Zimbabwean challenger Takudwa Kuchocha. It will be the first professional boxing tournament to be staged in the vast Omaheke Region.
