Boxing at Oshakati this weekend

Boxing fans in the northern part of the country are in for a treat, as the country’s leading amateur boxing stable MTC Kilimajaro Boxing Academy is set to host a boxing bonanza this weekend.

The bonanza is slated for Saturday during the Ekuku Expo, and it is set to feature northern based boxing clubs. Additionally, they will have two invited boxing clubs from Windhoek to elevate the competition level.

According to the promoter and coach of the stable Joseph Bernhard the bonanza is aimed at scouting boxers who will be put in the regional team which is set to compete in the national boxing competition which is set to take place later this year.

Speaking to this publication, yesterday, Bernhard said preparations are progressing well and they are at an advanced stage. He added that this bonanza is being held at a promising event where their regional boxers can be exposed to a huge number of spectators.

“The Ekuku Expo is one of the massive events held in the north, and we are using the opportunity to showcase our boxers during the event, we hope that we can scout potential boxers as well as expose them to the masses to watch out for their future champions,”

“I am happy with how the boxers have prepared for this event, I personally witnessed the work that boxers from my stable have put in work and fighting at a bigger stage is more like a reward for them. I am excited about the weekend’s event, and I believe providing them the opportunity to fight is already a huge success,” he added.

Bernhard said these events are crucial in deterring young people from engaging in harmful activities like drug abuse and preventing unwanted pregnancies.

“I am happy that such events play crucial roles in the community. By bringing them to compete in these events, we strive to educate them about the dangers of drug abuse or consumption and guide them toward chasing their dreams,” he stated.

He urged fans and the community to attend in large numbers to support the cause.

“This will be a big event. We are calling on boxing fans in the regions and surrounding areas to come and watch. Fans will be entertained, as top boxing will be on display,” he said.
