Boxing returns to Oshakati this month

Boxing returns to Oshakati this month

MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club, a leading amateur boxing club in Namibia, will host a boxing event this month to scout potential boxers who will represent the region at upcoming national competitions.

The event is scheduled for 28 June in Oshakati, coinciding with the Ekuku Expo.

Promoter at the stable, Joseph Bernhard, said the tournament will feature several boxing stables from the region and surrounding areas.

Additionally, an invited team from the Khomas region will participate, ensuring a higher level of competition during the event.

“We are hosting this event during the Ekuku Expo, which I believe will be the perfect time,” Bernhard said.

“During the expo, we expect a large number of locals to be around town, making it an ideal opportunity to showcase our promising prospects,” he stated.

He added that “with the national boxing championship approaching, we believe this is a good opportunity for us, as leaders in regional boxing, to ensure a strong team is selected to represent us at that stage,” said Bernhard.

This is not the first time the club has organised such an event.

Bernhard said these events are crucial in deterring young people from engaging in harmful activities like drug abuse and preventing unwanted pregnancies.

“I am happy that such events play crucial roles in the community. By bringing them to compete in these events, we strive to educate them about the dangers of drug abuse or consumption and guide them toward chasing their dreams,” he stated.

He urged fans and the community to attend in large numbers to support the cause.

“This will be a big event. We are calling on boxing fans in the regions and surrounding areas to come and watch. Fans will be entertained, as top boxing will be on display,” he said.
