OTJIWARONGO – Woema met with a group of car enthusiast in Otjiwarongo as they were racing with their wire-cars in the dusty streets of Orwetoveni.

Junior Soreseb has love for Isuzu bakkie simply because of the expensive sound system it has. His friend Mercy Gomeb on the other hand has a love for sports cars, and was pushing around a customized “VW Beetle” wire car with “a sports interior with a drop suspension and nice mag rims”. He has fallen in love with the Beetle after he had seen one in Otjiwarongo which had a red and pink colour combination.

Jovanni Gomeb had a different taste from his friends. He is a motorbike lover and fancy anything on two wheels. He was pushing a “BMW Motorcycle” wire-motorbike, which he says has better speed than the 4-wheelers of his friends. He owns a pedal cycle at the farm and that’s were he is sharpening his riding skills, so that the day he turns 16, he will get his learners licence and start riding motorbikes.

Petrus Bartolomeus is a bakkie lover and nothing will steal his heart from a Toyota Hilux bakkie. His father owns one and already at his age of 13, he is learning how to drive. “I am still very short and struggles a bit to reach the pedals, that is why I always push the seat to the front,” said Petrus smiling. He is learning how to drive at the sports field and since its illegal at his age, he only drives on the farm and is not allowed to drive on the road.
