Brave Warriors eye-crucial win against Liberia …in World Cup qualifier at 18h00 today

The Brave Warriors will have to deliver a top-class performance as they face Liberia in their second-last Fifa World Cup qualifier at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium in Monrovia today at 18h00.

Namibia heads into the clash with renewed confidence after their convincing 3-0 victory over São Tomé and Príncipe in Francistown, Botswana, where Peter Shalulile netted a hat-trick to keep their qualification hopes alive.

The last meeting between Namibia and Liberia on 5 June last year ended in a 1-1 draw, with Tjipe Karuombe finding the back of the net for Namibia.

However, one of their most memorable encounters dates back to 1997 when the Brave Warriors triumphed 2-1 – thanks to goals from Eliphas Shivute and Gerros Witbeen.

The players understand what is at stake in the upcoming two fixtures and what is expected of them, explained senior player Riaan Hanamub. “Tunisia may have qualified but we still stand a chance to make it to the play offs provided we do well in this games and obtain maximum points.  The entire team understands the tasks at hand with this remaining games and we will go all out,,the focus is not on the other teams or the group standings right now but just on what we can do ” he said.

Currently, Tunisia leads Group H and has already qualified for the World Cup.

Namibia sits second with 15 points, followed by Liberia with 11.

Malawi and Equatorial Guinea each have 10.  São Tomé and Príncipe remain bottom with no points.
