WINDHOEK – Local businessman Wilfred Izaaks made a first appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a charge of corruptly falsifying a document. It is alleged that he forged a certificate of good standing from the Ministry of Finance in 2012.

He also faces alternative charges of forgery and uttering. It is alleged that he did this to qualify for a tender at an unnamed government agency in access of N$400 000. State prosecutor Henry Muhongo at first objected to bail being granted to Izaaks, but later conceded and recommended bail of N$20 000.

Advocate Slysken Makando who represented Izaaks however corrected Muhongo saying that his client was charged with corruptly giving a false document to an agent and not of falsifying the document. The lawyers agreed to a remand date of September 8 to 9 September for plea and trial and Izaaks was released on bail of N$20 000 with no conditions attached.
