Eleven orphans from Omatelekelo Combined School in Omusati Region received school uniforms last Friday that were donated by a local entrepreneur.

The learners received shirts, skirts, trousers and school shoes, while one of the orphans also received an additional school bag for performing outstandingly in school. The school accommodates 91 learners from pre-school to Grade 4. The sponsor, owner of Se-po Trading Josef Kashipu, who also constructed five toilets at the school, said after assessing the situation at the school he saw the need to plough back. “We need to plough back into the community that gives us jobs. Hence, after the completion of the toilets I thought it is viable to renovate one of the classrooms and also assist the orphans,” explained Kashipu.

He vowed to assist the school further and also to continue buying school uniforms for the best learner at the school.
Constituency Councillor of Ogongo Willem Iyambo in whose precinct the school is situated, appealed to staff to take planning seriously in order to ensure fruitful teaching and learning. Iyambo also appealed to the parents to partake in their children’s education and to ensure they are well fed before going to school.

He further encouraged learners to be disciplined and to work hard in order to excel in their school work.
School patron Michael Aupokolo appealed to other businesses to emulate the good example set by Kashipu. Aupokolo beseeched government through the constituency councillor to install electricity at the school in order to enlighten the children about what is happening in the rest of the world through the use of the internet.

“Currently our learners are aspiring to be security guards and police officers, among other professions,” related Aupokolo.
A 10-year-old Grade 2 learner, Mwene Tuuda, who scooped the best learner award, expressed gratitude and promised to work even harder.

Still in the same region, Outapi Town Council donated 10 bags of cement as a contribution towards the building of a hostel block for orphans and vulnerable children at Oshipeto on the Tsandi circuit. The hostel accommodates about 200 learners, including pre-primary to Grade 10 learners, but the number is said to be rising rapidly.
