RUNDU – Police arrested a 32-year-old man who was found in possession of cannabis on Sunday, 28 December, at Masivi roadblock just outside Rundu.

Police say their suspicion was aroused when the man showed “stubborn behaviour” by refusing to be searched.

The man was asked to remove his jacket and was found to have cannabis sellotaped around his abdomen, arms and legs.

The value of the cannabis was however unknown at the time of arrest and the suspect was scheduled to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court last week Tuesday, 30 December.

“One could not easily notice if the man was carrying something on him as he just appeared to be big and wearing a jacket,” a police officer told New Era.

According to Deputy Commissioner Sam !Nawaseb of the Namibian Police in Rundu the suspect confessed that he was on his way from Rundu to the Grootfontein and Tsumeb.

“The suspect has two pending similar cases in Kavango West. One time he was arrested at Mururani road block and another at Bravo, south of Mpungu Vlei in Kavango West. We are still investigating the case,” !Nawaseb said.

Meanwhile, the police in the Mukwe Constituency of Kavango East have arrested a man at Omega 1 resettlement area on charges of assault.

The suspect allegedly hit another man with an empty bottle on the forehead before stabbing him with a traditional spear on the arm. The victim sustained wounds, police say.

Also, the police in Mukwe have arrested two men who defiled a 14-year-old girl at Popa village, east of Divundu. The two suspects, both in their early 20s, had sex with the minor without her consent, according to the charge sheet.

The case was reported to the police by the minor’s parents.
