By Kuvee Kangueehi WINDHOEK New Orlando Pirates FC coach Ali Akan received a baptism of fire this weekend when his new club lost both their games. Pirates were beaten 4-2 by Golden Bees on Saturday afternoon before losing by a single goal at the hands of Oshakati City in the north. Akan, who replaced Brain Isaacs on Tuesday, will need to start producing results if he is to retain his job at Pirates with its demanding fans. Pirates started at the weekend in eighth position after having played six games. Pirates won two games, drew one and lost three but, following this weekend’s results, Pirates have now definitely slidden down the log standing. However, Black Africa managed to collect some points on the road as they defeated Golden Bees by a solitary goal. Black Africa grabbed the goal in the final minutes of the closely-contested match to secure the three points. The trip north proved to be important and successful for Black Africa as on Saturday they also beat Oshakati City by a solitary goal, thus collecting maximum points over the weekend which will push Black Africa into the top three positions after United Africa Tigers and Civics FC both dropped vital points over the weekend. Nampa reports that United Africa Tigers suffered a humiliating defeat by Kinalco Minolta Eleven Arrows. The blue and white outfit went down by 4-0 at the SKW stadium on Sunday. United Africa Tigers secured a victory over Blue Waters with a late goal by Leonard Stanley at the Independence stadium on Saturday. Stanley scored at the stroke of full time, thanks to the brilliant play by seasoned striker, Nelson Akwenye. The first half ended goalless. Blue Waters’ striker, Angolan-born Armando Pedro, failed to make his presence felt, so did his midfield players. Tigers, on the other hand, demonstrated their determination to win with Letu Shatimwuene and Page Ananias creating a number of chances. Tigers defender, Kevin Bock, also played extremely well with his hard-tackling approach with teammate, Ivan Makina, taking charge of the defence. In other matches played on Saturday, Windhoek Optics Ramblers defeated Kinalco Minalto Eleven Arrows by 2-1 at the SKW stadium. On Friday, log leaders Civics played to a one-all draw against Cymot SKW while African Stars outplayed Friends by 8-1 at the same venue.
