A driver lost control last Friday morning and rammed his vehicle into an zinc shack, killing a 54-year-old woman who was sleeping at the time of the accident.

The incident occurred between 06h40 and 07h00 at Neyuva village in Ndiyona, Kavango East.

The woman died on the spot while her daughter was rushed to the nearest hospital for medical treatment where she was admitted and her condition is described as not life-threatening.

According to reliable sources, the 34-year-old driver – only identified as Haingura – was on his way to work at Neyuva Combined School where he is a teacher.

He lost control of the white Toyota pickup that he was driving after an alleged tyre burst and rammed into a zinc shack, destroying it completely and killing the elderly occupant.

According to one close family member, “The daughter went to wake her mother up after she had dreamt that she [the mother] was involved in an car accident, and just when she was about to leave her mother’s room, a car crushed into the shack where the mother was sleeping and she was also injured.”

The deceased has been identified as Mushongo Krecentia Vihemba and her daughter as Shikusho Mechtilde Mantjondi, 35.

“We are investigating the accident,” said Detective Chief Inspector Chrispin Mubebo of the police in Kavango East.
