China Harbour Engineering Company early this week extended its largess to needy communities in Windhoek Rural constituency by donating food parcels worth N$500 000 comprising maize meal, flour, tinned fish, soup and soap. The official donation handover ceremony to assist the Namibian government to provide for the less privileged was held early this week in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila.

“I don’t know what I have done to the Lord to go through all this,” agonised a 47-year-old blind woman who narrated her tale of hardship and living alone in a small and dilapidated shack at Mix Settlement located 20km north of Windhoek.

As part of ongoing government efforts the Ministry of Finance on Monday allocated N$400 million, while the Social Security Commission (SSC) gave N$253 million to the National Employment and Salary Scheme for Covid-19 relief measures.

ONGWEDIVA – A 57-year-old man and owner of a northern-based private school committed suicide by hanging himself on Monday morning, barely two days after parents authored a strongly-worded letter in which they complained about the state of the school as well as the continuous payment for services not rendered during the Covid-19 lockdown period.

Health authorities in Omusati yesterday said 61 pigs have died from African swine fever following an outbreak in the region, affecting nearly 200 animals. Omusati State veterinarian Josephat Peter confirmed the outbreak, saying a local farmer reported the first case on 17 March.
