Namibia’s police chief has called for severe punishments for adults who rape children as a deterent for a crime that has become all too prevalent.

Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said government is aware of youth unemployment, which she attributes to a lack of skills and access to finance, and has listed an array of interventions to solve the crisis.

Swapo members who were born in exile have expressed concern over ructions in the governing party. Namibian Exile Kids Association (NEKA) secretary general Mao Angula said the organisation is worried over the high degree of “cancerous symptoms of disunity and tribalism”

Interim senior men’s football coach, Bobby Samaria said they played a strong Senegalese team, but admitted they had fair chances which they couldn’t convert.

He told New Era Sport such events are vital to groom future talent. “I am excited with the way the bonanza unfolded. Young prospects came out to show off their talent, as well as build their careers at an amateur level. I believe future champions begin at this level; that’s why it is important to have such competitions,” said Benhard.

The championships were contested by schools from 13 regions. Only the Kunene region could not send a team. Before Saturday, competitions were held among schools within the different regions to select their teams for the national event.
