Commission warns of monopoly in automotive industry

WINDHOEK – Following a 2018 study of the local automotive industry, the Namibian Competition Commission (NaCC) says the biggest concerns in respect of competition and market structure were found in the application of franchising in the vehicle retail market, more specifically the market for new vehicle sales, whereby one company is given exclusive rights by the franchisor to sell a certain brand in the entire country.

Calle clamps down on corruption

WINDHOEK – During 2018, the Ministry of Finance uncovered more corruption cases within its corridors compared to the previous year. Addressing his staff yesterday, Minister of Finance, Calle Schlettwein, revealed that while only six corruption cases were exposed in 2017/18, this year, the figure increased to more than double with 15 corruption cases discovered.

Sadc’s dexterity cements democracy in the DRC

Divergent to reports that Sadc has been dilly-dallying with indecisiveness on the outcome of the recently concluded elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), or as some critics claimed, has supposedly betrayed genuine democracy for political friendship with President Joseph Kabila, the regional body led by its venerable Chairperson, President Dr. Hage G. Geingob, has as per the accepted international norms, taken a farsighted decisive position in the best interest of lasting peace, stability and democracy for the people of the DRC.
