WINDHOEK - The reward for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrator(s) in the murder of nine-year-old Cheryl Avihe Ujaha was increased to N$100 000.

WINDHOEK - “For the rest of my life I will always carry hatred towards you until the day I know you are in the grave,” a very emotional woman, who may not be named to protect her identity, told the man accused of sexually violating her in 2012 at his court hearing yesterday.

GOBABIS - The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Gender Equality, Social Development and Family Affairs took to the Omaheke Region this week to conduct public hearings on motions on gender-based violence and high rates of suicide in Namibia.

“We have reached a pivotal point in our country where we can no longer sit by and allow this to happen to our women and girls. 

Gender based Violence (GBV) has long been identified as a key factor that is obstructing Namibia’s progress towards achieving gender equality. Both the State and Civil Society Organisations (CSO’s) recognise the need for holistic, coordinated and multi-faceted approaches which would lead to the successful implementation of effective and efficient laws, policies, plans and programs to prevent, mitigate and address GBV. 

WINDHOEK – Faith-based communities can have meaningful and impactful roles in the lives of individuals and society at large if they join hands to address societal ills such as gender-based violence, the Director of the Windhoek Islamic Centre, Dr Armas Abdul Malik Shikongo says.  

WINDHOEK - There is a need for collaborative, integrated and coordinated approaches that aim at both responding to and preventing GBV in order to meet the goal of eliminating all forms of gender-based violence by 2030 in accordance with the revised SADC Protocol on Gender and Development.
